Decal Application Guide: Prepare, Place, and Shine!
Preparation is key! Make sure the surface is clean and free of dirt, dust, grease, or any residue. Remove waxes, sealants, or enhancements as they will prevent adhesion.
Clean glass surfaces: Use a microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol. In a pinch, use soap and hot water (rinse thoroughly!). Avoid glass cleaners, as they leave a residue that hinders adhesion and can cause bubbles.
Dry completely: Ensure the surface is dry before applying the decal. Use a hairdryer or leave it in the sun for a few minutes if needed.
Get the decal ready: Firmly rub the felt-edged squeegee (or microfiber cloth) over the decal, pressing the transfer tape onto the vinyl. This removes any air bubbles and ensures the decal adheres to the tape.
Find the perfect spot (optional): Use masking tape and a measuring tape for precise placement. This step is optional but helpful for large decals. Remember, decals are single-use, so take your time!
Peel carefully: Gently remove the paper backing. If the decal sticks to the backing, slowly replace it and repeat the squeegee step, especially for intricate areas. Peel the transfer tape at a 45-degree angle, ideally from right to left.
Apply and press: Place the decal onto the desired surface and press firmly from the center outwards using a squeegee or microfiber cloth. Work out any air bubbles towards the edges (a pin can help with stubborn ones). Wait 10-15 minutes for optimal adhesion.
Voila! Slowly peel the transfer tape at a right angle or parallel to the surface. Avoid pulling upwards to prevent pulling the decal off. If the decal lifts, repeat the previous step. If it persists, there might be a contaminant on the surface hindering adhesion.
Bonus tip: Treat yourself to a cup of tea while the decal adheres – the wait will be worth it!
